Mayzee — the group trip actually happens

What it is

Eight of you can't afford a rep. So I do it.

Not a better price — the absence of a person doing it. I close the vote, chase the one who hasn't replied, freeze the exchange rate onto the receipt, and tell you plainly that Dave will be turned away at the gate.

Propose, one vote each, and a deadline that closes it. Six of us by the 1st or it's off — and I call it off myself, so nobody has to be the one who says it.

The itinerary opens on the day you're on, with the days gone folded behind it. Everyone's flights, trains and ferries on one timeline, spare seats included.

Split, and settled

Local currency in, yours out, at the rate on the day you spent it. Who pays who, one line each. Nothing is charged — it's a promise I keep score of.

Why it works

A trip is a link.

Signing up is the friction that keeps groups in WhatsApp — for the seven people who do one tap each and nothing else. So there's no sign-up, no password and no email address. Only whoever pays ever makes an account, because they were already doing all the work.

One tap is a whole answer

Vote, hand your vote to someone who cares more, or say you don't mind. All three count as settled, and I close it the moment the last of you has spoken.

It answers with no signal

The iPhone app keeps the addresses, the times and what you owe on the phone. Café wifi that isn't there is the normal case, not the edge case.

I never ask for your passport number

Two dates catch what actually stops people at the gate. The number answers neither, so I don't collect it.

The look

It takes the colour of the trip you're on.

The destination proposes a palette and the plan refines it — a stag in Ibiza drifts from beach to big night out once the boat party lands on the itinerary. Ten of them, one rule: only the hue moves, so every one clears AA and none of them is a different app.

Who I am
